Hair transplant is a popular cosmetic procedure that can help to restore hair growth in areas of the scalp where hair loss has occurred. One of the main concerns for people considering hair transplant is whether the procedure will leave noticeable scars.
The FUT method (Follicular Unit Technique) is one of the traditional methods of hair transplant. In this method, a strip of scalp skin tissue containing hair follicles is taken from the nape area, and the hair grafts are then implanted into manually opened hair channels in the recipient area. This process can leave a single-line wound scar in the nape area between the two ears about 1.5-2 mm thick where hair follicles are extracted. However, it’s worth noting that this method is not as commonly used anymore and our clinic in Antalya no longer performs this method.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) are two alternative methods that are now more commonly used. These methods involve harvesting individual hair grafts from the scalp one by one with the help of a micromotor. These methods are less invasive and leave very little to no scars in the donor area.
FUE is a method of hair transplantation that involves extracting individual hair follicles from the scalp and transplanting them to the desired area. This method does not leave a linear scar like the traditional strip method (FUT) does. However, FUE does leave small dot-like scars where the hair follicles were extracted. These scars are typically very small, almost invisible and can be hidden by the surrounding hair.
DHI is a newer method than FUE, and it is similar to FUE. The difference is that in DHI, the harvested hair follicles are implanted with a special device called Choi Implanter Pen. The extracted hair follicles are directly implanted into the recipient area using this pen without opening channels. This method is also scarless as no incision is made.
In conclusion, while the FUT method can leave a noticeable scar in the donor area, FUE and DHI methods are less invasive and leave very little to no scars. If you’re considering hair transplant, it’s important to discuss with the hair clinic of your choice which method is the best fit for you based on the condition of your hair and your desired results.
